What it is for

Fall (many legs) is the fall of the nine game cycles, written for the many set: the legs flailing and the claws up and waving, a game plays it the instant the character is falling through the air.

The principle it shows: overlapping action

The legs flail at a quarter-second rhythm, opposite each other, while the claws wave at double that time, half a second. Two different speeds on different parts of the body, rather than one shared timing, is what keeps the fall from reading as a single stiff flail.

The program, line by line

settings: h = 540, leg = 0.1
when it starts
  look scared
set left arm -18, right arm 18, left arm lift (0.066*h), right arm lift (0.066*h), dy (-0.03*h), mouth 0.4
  sin wave on left leg · every 0.25 s · amp 14
  sin wave on right leg · every 0.25 s · amp 14 · phase 3.141592653589793
  sin wave on left arm · every 0.5 s · amp -10
  sin wave on right arm · every 0.5 s · amp 10

Try this

  1. Flail the left leg every 0.1 seconds instead of 0.25. The fall reads as far more frantic, as if the character only just started falling.

    In the program: wave · every 0.25 → 0.1

  2. Open the mouth 0.8 instead of 0.4. The scared expression reads as a much bigger reaction to falling.

    In the program: set · to.mouth 0.4 → 0.8

How it differs from Jump (many legs, in place) and Fall

Jump (many legs, in place) has its own brief fall phase built into a fixed arc toward a landing; this Fall is the open-ended loop a game reaches for once the drop's length is not yet known. Fall is the same idea for the upright set, kicking with two legs rather than flailing many.

Works on

Worked out by the build: it plays the move in the engine on each body and checks what moves on screen. Nobody types this table.
