Questions and answers
Is Jabbertoon free?
Jabbertoon is free: there is no price, no paid tier and no advertising.
Do I need an account?
No account and no sign-up. Nobody is asked for a name, an email address, an age or a password.
Where do my cartoons go?
Nothing you make is uploaded. Your characters, moves, lines and recordings stay in the browser on your device.
What do I need to run it?
It runs in your web browser. There is nothing to install.
It is built for Chrome and Edge 100 or later, Safari 15.4 or later and Firefox 100 or later.
Can I download my cartoon as a video?
Your cartoon downloads as a video file: MP4 where your browser can record MP4, otherwise WebM.
Can I post what I make on YouTube?
Yes. The cartoon, its story and its characters are yours, and the ready-made characters, moves and scenes you used are CC0, which means anyone may use them for anything, including a YouTube video, without asking or paying. YouTube's own rules say account holders must be at least 13 in most countries, so younger makers should ask a parent or teacher to post it. A credit such as "made with Jabbertoon" is welcome but not required.
Why does making voices download something?
The voice model is about 92 MB. It downloads once per device, the first time you make voices, and is kept by the browser after that. A guest session on a Chromebook downloads it again each time.
Is anything I type or record sent to a server?
Microphone recordings and the lines you type stay on your device. The free voices are made inside your browser.
How does a share link work without an account?
A share link carries your move or character after the # sign. Browsers never send that part of a link to a server, so nothing is stored by us when you share.
Does the site use cookies or tracking?
No cookies, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking scripts.
Is it safe for school?
There are no accounts, no chat, no gallery and no comments, so there is nowhere for strangers to reach a child, and nothing a student makes leaves the device. The teachers' page has the domains your school's filter needs to allow and a one-page privacy summary to print.
Does Jabbertoon use AI to make cartoons?
No. Nothing on the site writes your story or draws your characters for you. The voices come from a speech model that runs inside your browser and only says the words you typed. Separately, there are free tools that let AI assistants read the list of moves and check a program, described on the page for AI assistants.
Can I change the moves and characters?
Yes. Every move is a program made of blocks that you can open in the block editor, and every ready-made character can be opened in the character creator. Both are CC0, so you may share what you make from them however you like.
Is the code open source?
Jabbertoon's code is licensed under the Apache License 2.0, and the part of it that runs in your browser is served as readable source files. Every move and character pack it ships is CC0 (public domain).
Who makes Jabbertoon, and how do I get in touch?
