List on fingers

Counting off points: the left hand comes up open in front of the chest, and the right forefinger taps it once, twice, three times, each tap a little higher, the head nodding with every count.

What it is for

List on fingers is for a character giving reasons, steps or a list of things: "first ..., then ..., and last ...". Put it under a line with three parts, and each tap lands on one of them.

The principle it shows: timing

Each tap is quick going in and a little slower coming back, and the head nods on the tap, not between taps. The three counts are evenly spaced, so the audience feels the rhythm of the list before the third point is even said.

Try this

  1. Make the first tap in 0.12 seconds instead of 0.25. A brisk, impatient count: first, second, third, no arguing.

In the program: ramp ยท over 0.25 โ†’ 0.12

  2. Nod 18 degrees on the first count instead of 8. The first point is the one that matters most.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.part:head 8 โ†’ 18

How it differs from Explain and Point

Explain shapes one idea with both hands; List on fingers keeps one hand still and counts on it. Point aims at something out in the scene; this point stays on the character's own hand.

Works on

The two in the film above, and what the move turns on each: worked out by the build, which plays the move on each body and checks what moves. Nobody types this table.
