Startle

An animal on four legs is startled: it springs up and back, its front off the ground, its ears and tail up, then lands a step back, surprised.

What it is for

A cat meeting a cucumber, a dog hearing a pop. It is what Surprised and React play on four legs.

The principle it shows: surprise moves away

A startled animal gets away from the surprise first and looks later: the body goes up and back in one quick spring (ease out: fast at the start), the front paws leave the ground, and it lands a step behind where it stood, still looking, ears up.

Try this

  1. Take 0.3 s over its first change instead of 0.15 s: a slower startle.

In the program: ramp ยท over 0.15 โ†’ 0.3

  2. Sink the body to -48.7 instead of -37.5: a lower startle.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.dy -37.5 โ†’ -48.7

How it differs from the others

Happy hop also lifts the front, but again and again, for joy; Cower (four legs) is the fright that stays.

Works on

The two in the film above, and what the move turns on each: worked out by the build, which plays the move on each body and checks what moves. Nobody types this table.
