Think

The right hand rises to the chin, the left arm folds across the body, and the head rocks slowly back and forth while the pose holds.

What it is for

Think is a held pose for a character working something out, caught mid-thought, or stalling for an answer. It is a hold rather than a performance: once the hands are in place it does nothing but rock the head gently, so it can sit under a long pause of dialogue or silence.

The principle it shows: secondary action

The main action is the hold itself, a hand at the chin and the other arm folded across the body; the slow rock of the head, between 10 degrees and 4 degrees, over a full second each way, is a secondary action layered on top, there so the pose keeps breathing instead of freezing while the character thinks.

The program, line by line

when it starts
reach right hand for the mouth + -0.08 up (× its height) in 0.4 s
reach left hand for the chest + -0.24 up (× its height) in 0.3 s
  forever:
    glide head 10 over 1 s (inout)
    glide head 4 over 1 s (inout)

Try this

  1. Move the right hand's target from 0.08 below the mouth to 0.05 above it. The hand rises from the chin to just above the mouth.

    In the program: reach · dy -0.08 → 0.05

  2. Change the left hand's offset from 0.24 below the chest to 0, so it rests on the chest itself. The folded arm rises from the waist to the chest.

    In the program: reach · dy -0.24 → 0

How it differs from Hands on hips and Wave and look

Hands on hips also reaches both hands for small offsets from spots on the body, the hips, and holds them there. Wave and look reaches one hand for a point just beside the head and lets go again after three waves; Think's two reaches never let go.

Works on

Worked out by the build: it plays the move in the engine on each body and checks what moves on screen. Nobody types this table.

4 legs (a dog)yeshead, front legs, ears
