Wave goodbye

See you: the arm goes up high, the forearm upright, and waves big and slow side to side; then the hand comes down as the chest and the head turn away to go.

What it is for

Wave goodbye ends a meeting: a friend leaving, a character setting off on a trip, the last moment of a scene. It ends turned away, so the next move can be a walk off.

The principle it shows: timing tells the feeling

Its swings are slower and wider than a hello's, and the arm is higher. Nothing else changes, yet a slow wave reads as a farewell and a quick one as a greeting.

Try this

  1. Make the first swing of the wave in 0.2 seconds instead of 0.4. A quick, cheerful "bye!" instead of a slow farewell.

In the program: ramp ยท over 0.4 โ†’ 0.2

  2. Turn the head 50 degrees away at the end instead of 22. The character is already on its way.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.part:head~twist -22 โ†’ -50

How it differs from Wave hello

Wave hello is quicker and turns toward the other character; Wave goodbye is slower and ends turning away.
