What it is

Bold draws heavy outlines, and instead of black each line is a deep shade of the colour it surrounds: a blue shirt gets a dark blue line, orange fur a dark orange one. Each shape also gets a hard-edged shadow on the side away from the light, the cel shading of many modern cartoons, plus a shine. The eyes are the classic kind. The effect is strong and graphic.

When to choose it

Pick Bold for energy: action scenes, comedy, superheroes, a cartoon that will be watched on a phone. The thick lines survive being shrunk to a small video better than any look except Flat, and the one-sided shadow gives a sense of light and volume without any soft gradient. Because the lines are coloured rather than black, characters of different colours keep their own feel.

Every character in it

The person and the kid look like the leads of a TV show, with thick blue and orange lines around their clothes. The dog and the cat get a crisp shadow down the far side of every leg, which makes their walk cycles look punchy. The bird's wings and belly are boldly separated, and the monster looks its most dramatic, with dark purple lines and a sharp shadow on its belly. Where the page's scripts run, the tiles below show all six, moving.

How it is drawn

The outline is 7 pixels wide at full-HD size, the widest of any look, in a tone of each shape's own colour. The hard shadow covers part of each shape on the side away from the upper-right light, and there is a moderate shine and no texture. As with every look, a character moves exactly the same in Bold as in the others.
