Cartoon looks

A look is an art style: how the outlines, colours, shading and eyes are drawn. Every character on Jabbertoon can be drawn in any of the six, and the look never changes how a character moves.

Nothing on this page is a picture drawn by hand. Each character is a tree of simple shapes (ellipses, capsules, rounded boxes and short paths) hung on a skeleton, and the look is a set of drawing rules applied to those shapes as they are drawn. That is why a look works at any size, on any character you build, and in every frame of a move. Pick one in the studio and every character in your cartoon takes it.

• FlatThe Flat look draws every Jabbertoon character in plain, solid colours with no outlines, no shading and simple dot eyes.
• OutlinedThe Outlined look gives every Jabbertoon character dark, even outlines, flat colours and a small shine. New characters start in it.
• SoftThe Soft look shades every Jabbertoon character smoothly from a light at the upper right, with no outlines, so every shape looks round.
• StorybookThe Storybook look draws every Jabbertoon character with thin warm outlines, gentle shading, a paper texture and rosy cheeks, like a picture book.
• BoldThe Bold look gives every Jabbertoon character thick outlines in a darker shade of its own colour and a crisp shadow on one side.
• CrayonThe Crayon look draws every Jabbertoon character with wobbly hand-drawn outlines and a waxy hatched colour, like a drawing that came to life.
