What it is

Outlined draws a dark line of the same width around every shape, fills it with flat colour and adds a small shine on the rounder parts. The eyes are rings with a pupil. This is the look most people picture when they think of a television cartoon: clean, readable from across a room, and friendly. It is the default for new characters on Jabbertoon.

When to choose it

Choose Outlined when you want a cartoon to look finished without thinking about style. The outlines separate every part, so a hand in front of a body, or a dog's front leg in front of its back leg, always reads clearly, even when the colours are close. That makes it the safest look for characters you build yourself, and for scenes with several characters overlapping. The shine adds a little depth without any shading.

Every character in it

The person and the kid get a crisp line around the head, the shirt, the arms and the legs, so every joint of a move is easy to follow. The dog and the cat show each leg as its own outlined shape, which is why the walk cycles look clearest in this look. The bird's round body and wings are separated by the line, and the monster's antennae, claws and spots each stand out. Where the page's scripts run, the tiles below show all six, moving.

How it is drawn

The outline is 5.25 pixels wide at full-HD size, in an almost-black ink, and keeps that width whatever size the character is drawn at. There is no shading gradient and no hard shadow; the shine is a soft white highlight. Because a look only changes how shapes are painted, every move plays exactly the same in Outlined as in any other look.
