Embarrassed

Embarrassed: the head ducks and turns away, one hand goes up to rub the back of the neck, and a foot shuffles on the ground.

What it is for

Embarrassed is for a character caught out: a compliment it did not expect, a mistake in front of everyone, a crush. It loops every 1.6 seconds, the hand rubbing and the foot scuffing, so it holds for as long as the awkward moment does.

The principle it shows: secondary action

The main action is the head ducking away. The hand rubbing the back of the neck, its forearm bending and straightening every 0.4 seconds, and the foot turning 25 degrees as it scuffs are secondary actions: smaller movements that say the same thing a second time. Together they turn a lowered head into someone who wants to be anywhere else.

Try this

  1. Duck the head 32 degrees instead of 20: wishing the floor would swallow you.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.part:head 20 โ†’ 32

  2. Turn the left foot 45 degrees on the shuffle instead of 25: a bigger, more awkward scuff.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.part:foot:-1~twist 25 โ†’ 45

How it differs from Cower and Think

Cower hides from danger, the arms over the head; Embarrassed only hides from being looked at. Think brings a hand up to the face too, but to the chin, the head up.

Works on
