Relieved

Relieved: a big breath in that lifts the chest and the shoulders, then a long breath out as they drop, one hand coming to rest on the chest, the head tipping forward a little.

What it is for

Relieved is for the moment the danger passes: the monster walks by, the test comes back with a good mark, the lost dog comes home. It plays once in under two and a half seconds and ends at rest, the hand still on the chest.

The principle it shows: anticipation

The breath out is the action; the breath in is its anticipation. For half a second the chest lifts back and the shoulders rise, and only then, over 0.9 seconds, does everything drop further than where it began. Without the breath in, the drop would just be someone sitting lower; with it, the audience sees a weight lifted.

Try this

  1. Let the chest sink 18 degrees on the breath out instead of 8: weak at the knees with relief.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.part:torso#1 8 โ†’ 18

  2. Tip the head back 20 degrees on the breath in instead of 8: eyes to the sky, thank goodness.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.part:head -8 โ†’ -20

How it differs from Sad and Yawn

Sad sighs too, but stays low and keeps sighing. Yawn stretches up before it slumps, tired rather than relieved.

Works on

The two in the film above, and what the move turns on each: worked out by the build, which plays the move on each body and checks what moves. Nobody types this table.
