What it is for
Sit (bird) is the sit of the nine game cycles, written for the bird set: it holds the folded-leg pose Settle down (bird) settles into, breathing, blinking and looking about, looping every 4 seconds for as long as a game leaves the bird there.
The principle it shows: overlapping action
The breath and the head's own sway share the same four-second period but start at a different point in it, so the pose never holds perfectly rigid even while the bird is doing nothing else. The head's sway here is wider than the upright sit's own, which is what reads as a bird genuinely looking about rather than just breathing in place.

Written out in full, exactly as the engine prints them:
-h*leg*sin((45)*pi/180)
h*leg*(1 - cos((45)*pi/180))Try this
Turn the head 10 degrees instead of 4. The settled hold looks far more alert, as if the bird keeps noticing things around it.
In the program:
wave · amp4→10Breathe more than twice as deep, 0.025 instead of 0.01. The hold reads as a slow, deliberate breath rather than ordinary quiet rest.
In the program:
wave · amp0.01→0.025
How it differs from Settle down (bird) and Stand up (bird)
Settle down (bird) is the motion of folding down into this pose. Stand up (bird) is what a game switches to when it is time to leave this pose behind.
