Crouch down

Down to a small one's level: the knees bend deep and the body leans in, the head looking down and one hand reaching out low and open, as if to a dog or a cat, the other on the knee; it stays down.

What it is for

Crouch down is for meeting someone small: patting a dog, talking to a cat, picking something up off the ground, looking at a flower. It stays down, so the next move can be a talk or a nod at that level.

The principle it shows: staging at the other's level

Getting down to a small character's height tells the audience that the small one matters. The head and the hand go toward it, so the eye follows them down to where the other character is.

Try this

  1. Look down 25 degrees instead of 12. Looking at something right at the feet, a kitten or a lost key.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.part:head 12 โ†’ 25

  2. Reach out in 0.4 seconds instead of 0.8. An eager hand out to a friendly dog.

In the program: ramp ยท over 0.8 โ†’ 0.4

How it differs from Squats and Kneel

Squats go down and up again as a workout. Kneel puts a knee on the ground, beaten in a fight; Crouch down stays on the feet, friendly, reaching out.
