Squats

A workout: the arms come up straight in front, then the knees bend deep, the hips going back and down and the body leaning in, and up again, round and round, the feet planted where they stand.

What it is for

Squats are for a character working out: in a gym, warming up before a race, a coach showing the class. They go round for as long as they play, so put them on a character for a whole scene.

The principle it shows: weight

A squat reads as effort because the whole body takes part in it. The knees bend, the hips go back, the chest leans in to keep the balance over the feet, and the arms reach out in front as a counterweight. The feet never move, so the weight looks real.

Try this

  1. Lean the body 45 degrees forward at the bottom instead of 28. A deeper hinge at the hips, the way a heavy squat goes.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.part:torso 28 โ†’ 45

  2. Lift the chin 28 degrees at the bottom instead of 14. The eyes stay up and ahead, as a coach would say.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.part:head -14 โ†’ -28

How it differs from Crouch down

Crouch down goes down once and stays there, leaning in to something small; Squats go down and up again and again.

Works on

The two in the film above, and what the move turns on each: worked out by the build, which plays the move on each body and checks what moves. Nobody types this table.
