Crouch

Down low fast and stays there: the knees bent deep with the feet flat, the arms forward for balance.

What it is for

A game's down key: ducking under something and staying down while the key is held, under a swinging blade or a low beam, then up again the moment the key is let go. In a cartoon, hiding behind a wall or a bush, peeking over the top of a fence, or getting down low to sneak past someone who has not looked round yet. It holds as long as its clip lasts, so a crouch behind a hedge can last the whole of another character's line.

The principle it shows: weight and balance

Weight and balance. The knees bend deep with the feet flat where they stand, the hips go back and down, and the arms come forward to balance the body leaning in. It gets there in a quarter of a second and holds. The feet never slide: the thighs, the knees and the ankles turn together so the body drops straight down over them, which is what makes it read as heavy rather than as a picture swapped for another.

Try this

  1. Take 0.5 s to get down instead of 0.26 s: easing down to hide, not ducking.

In the program: ramp ยท over 0.26 โ†’ 0.5

  2. Lean the body in 45 degrees instead of 26: curled right down.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.part:torso 26 โ†’ 45

How it differs from the others

Crouch down goes down to a small one's level with a hand held out to a dog or a cat; Duck drops under a swing and comes back up; Squats goes down and up, round and round.

Works on

The two in the film above, and what the move turns on each: worked out by the build, which plays the move on each body and checks what moves. Nobody types this table.
