Nod, fast and slow

Timing: the same nod twice, the head dipping from the neck and coming back, first in 0.3 seconds, an eager yes, then, after a pause, in 1.2 seconds, a thoughtful one.

What it is for

It is the Timing in animation lesson's move, made from the same keys: put it on a character and watch both nods one after the other. Use either half on its own when you want a yes with a feeling.

The principle it shows: timing

The two nods have the same keys: the head down 16 degrees and back up. Only the time between them changes, and that alone changes what the nod means. A quick nod is eager; a slow one is someone thinking it over.

Try this

  1. Dip the first nod in 0.06 seconds instead of 0.12. So quick that it reads as a twitch, not a yes.

In the program: ramp ยท over 0.12 โ†’ 0.06

  2. Take 1.2 seconds over the slow nod's dip instead of 0.6. So slow that the yes starts to read as doubt.

In the program: ramp ยท over 0.6 โ†’ 1.2

How it differs from Nod yes

Nod yes is one ordinary yes, two dips at one speed. This move puts two timings side by side to show the difference.

Works on

The two in the film above, and what the move turns on each: worked out by the build, which plays the move on each body and checks what moves. Nobody types this table.
