Shout

Calling across a distance: both hands come up cupped at the mouth as the chest draws back for breath, then on the shout the chest and the head push forward; held, then the hands come down.

What it is for

Shout is for calling someone far away: across a field, up to a window, after a friend who is leaving. Put it on the character just before a loud line.

The principle it shows: anticipation

Before the shout, the chest draws back, as a body takes a breath. That small move the other way is what makes the push forward read as force. The feet stay where they are; only the chest and the head go forward.

Try this

  1. Push forward in 0.12 seconds instead of 0.25. A sudden, startled yell instead of a call.

In the program: ramp ยท over 0.25 โ†’ 0.12

  2. Draw the chest back 14 degrees before the shout instead of 6. A bigger breath, so the shout reads louder.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.part:torso#1 -6 โ†’ -14

How it differs from Whisper and Announce

Whisper keeps the voice close behind one hand. Announce speaks to a crowd in front of the character; Shout calls to one person far away.
