Sit (many legs)

Staying settled for many legs: every leg stays bent, breathing and blinking, with just one claw tapping now and then, looping every 4 seconds until a game stands the character back up.

A cartoon person and a dog settled on the grass, breathing, one arm giving an occasional tap.

What it is for

Sit (many legs) is the sit of the nine game cycles, written for the many set: it holds the pose Settle down (many legs) settles into, breathing and blinking, looping every 4 seconds for as long as a game leaves the character there.

The principle it shows: secondary action

Almost nothing moves here beyond the breath: just one claw, on its own separate two-second rhythm, taps now and then. A single small secondary action is enough to keep a settled, many-legged body from reading as frozen, without needing every leg or claw to join in.

The program, line by line

settings: h = 540, leg = 0.1, on = 0
when it starts
  set back left leg 34, back right leg 34, front left leg 34, front right leg 34, leg #4 34, leg #5 34, leg #6 34, leg #7 34, leg #8 34, leg #9 34, leg #10 34, leg #11 34, leg #12 34, leg #13 34, leg #14 34, leg #15 34, left shin 0, right shin 0, dy (h*leg*0.1), left arm -4, right arm 4, left arm lift (0.038*h), right arm lift (0.038*h)
  sin wave on sy · every 4 s · amp 0.012
  sin wave on right claw · every 2 s · amp -8
  possin wave on blink · every 4 s · amp 1 · phase 1.2 · power 40

Try this

  1. Tap the right claw 16 degrees instead of 8. The settled hold looks far more restless, as if the character is impatient to move.

    In the program: wave · amp -8 → -16

  2. Breathe more than twice as deep, 0.012 to 0.03. The seated hold reads as a slow, deliberate breath rather than ordinary quiet rest.

    In the program: wave · amp 0.012 → 0.03

How it differs from Settle down (many legs) and Stand up (many legs)

Settle down (many legs) is the motion of settling into this pose. Stand up (many legs) is what a game switches to when it is time to leave this pose behind.

Works on

Worked out by the build: it plays the move in the engine on each body and checks what moves on screen. Nobody types this table.
