Stumble

A trip: the toe catches, the body pitches forward with the arms flying out, a quick big step catches the balance, a wobble, and upright again.

What it is for

Stumble is for a clumsy entrance, a trip over a step or a rug, or a shove from behind. It plays once in 1.2 seconds and ends upright a step further on, so a walk in that ends with it reads as stumbling in.

The principle it shows: follow-through

When the toe catches, the body's weight carries on: it pitches 35 degrees forward and lurches 14 cm while the arms fly up and out. When the other foot lands and stops it, the arms go on windmilling for another quarter of a second and the body wobbles to one side before it settles. The parts that keep moving after the body has been stopped are follow-through; without them the catch would look like a freeze-frame.

Try this

  1. Pitch the body 55 degrees forward on the trip instead of 35: a real lunge before the catch.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.part:torso 35 โ†’ 55

  2. Lurch 30 cm forward on the trip instead of 14: nearly a fall.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.dx 43.75 โ†’ 93.75

How it differs from Stagger and Dizzy

Stagger is knocked back by a blow, not tripped forward. Dizzy wobbles round on the spot and catches itself with a step to the side.

Works on
