Backhand

The sword drawn low to the left hip, the chest turned with it, then a step in and a backhand cut rising across the front to high right, ending cocked over the right shoulder.

What it is for

A sword fight's second blow, back the other way after a slash: the middle of a chain of three.

The principle it shows: the counter-turn

The counter-turn. The chest winds the other way, the sword low by the left hip, then unwinds as a step drives the blade up across the front to high right; it ends cocked over the shoulder, ready for the next blow. The marked Hit! is where it crosses the front.

Try this

  1. Slow the draw from 0.16 s to 0.3 s: the same backhand, taken more slowly, so you see the sword go low to the hip.

In the program: ramp ยท over 0.16 โ†’ 0.3

  2. Turn the arm (right) to -54.6 degrees instead of -42 as it draws back: the sword drawn further across.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.part:arm:1~out -42 โ†’ -54.6

How it differs from the others

Slash cuts down across the other way; Chop comes straight down; Thrust goes straight ahead.
