Claw swipe

A big four-legged creature rears up, its front left paw drawn up to its chest, and rakes it down at what is before it as its body drops forward. It hits as the paw comes down.

What it is for

A dragon, a bear or a big cat fighting in a game, or a cartoon creature that takes a swing at someone. In a game it is an attack: give it to a creature's fight as one of its light attacks, beside a bite, and it will open with either one. Saltwing's dragons do: they bite or claw what stands before them, and sweep their tails at what stands behind.

The principle it shows: a warning you can read

A big creature's attack has to be seen before it lands, or the fight is not fair. So the swipe is in two clear halves. First the creature rears: its chest comes up, its head goes back and one front paw is drawn up high. That is the warning. Then everything comes down at once and fast, the paw raking forward and down as the body drops onto it (ease in), and the hit is marked there, at 0.42 s. The other front leg braces, so the weight has somewhere to land.

Try this

  1. Take 0.5 s to rear up instead of 0.28 s: a slower swipe, easier to see coming.

In the program: ramp ยท over 0.28 โ†’ 0.5

  2. Rear up higher, to -12.2 instead of -9.4: a bigger, angrier swipe.

    In the program: ramp ยท to.dy -9.375 โ†’ -12.2

How it differs from the others

Bite strikes with the head and keeps the feet down; Pounce throws the whole body forward; the Tail Sweep is for what stands behind. On two legs, a person does a Slash instead.
